If you love dogs and everything to do with dogs check out Crufts, one of the world’s largest dog shows, taking place this week from March 10th to 13th at the National Exhibition Center in Birmingham, England.
The event was started as a dog show in 1891 by Charles Cruft, and this year Crufts is celebrating its 125th anniversary. Over the years it has grown to become a significantly larger event than the “Cruft’s Greatest Dog Show” of Victorian times! Crufts is hosted by the Kennel Club and, as well as being a dog show, now celebrates every aspect of the role that dogs play in our lives. In addition to the competition for the prestigious Best in Show title, it has hundreds of booths selling every product imaginable for dogs and dog lovers, demonstrations, informational booths and agility, freestyle and flyball events.
I was lucky enough to visit Crufts many times when I lived in England, and it was always an amazing day out with lots of opportunities to catch up with fellow Flat Coated Retriever owners, to shop until I dropped, and to watch some fantastic displays and demonstrations. Here is one of my all-time favorite display teams:
