Reports to:           Honors Training Program Lead Trainer

Travel:                     Rarely required

P/F Time:               Part time – approximately 20-24hours per week/benefits not included

Schedule TBD: 3, 8-hour days or 5, 4-hour days, etc. (negotiable but must be

Consistent)

Weekends/Evenings:   Yes – scheduled in advance

Job purpose:      To provide excellent customer service to both external and internal customers of Canine College and the Honors Training Program – and to assist with the implementation of exemplary dog training processes and methods.

Excellent customer service includes:

– Communicating politely and professionally to coworkers and customers

– Creating and implementing timely communications to coworkers and customers

– Creating, implementing and maintaining organized schedules and calendars for customers

and coworkers

– Offering creative ideas to help improve all aspects of the Honors Training Program

Exemplary dog training processes and methods includes:

– Abiding by the overall dog-friendly training philosophy held by the program

– Ability to discuss/document training status, next steps, and program services/philosophies as provided by Lead Trainer/Director of Training

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  1. Always treat animals and humans with kindness and respect
  2. Answer telephone calls/pick up and return messages and emails in a timely/professional fashion – 24 hour return time is the goal
  3. Educate customers/potential customers re: Honors Training Program services including descriptions and cost
  4. Educate public and coworkers on Honors Training Program dog-friendly training philosophy
  5. Design, implement and maintain a schedule of training clients
  6. Take reservations for all Honors Training Program programs, accept payment, explain any “prework” and/or vaccines, equipment, etc. required
  7. Provide timely and appropriate feedback to Honors Training Program clients regarding the progress of their pet’s training, behavior, health, etc. at Canine College.
  8. Assist with the design, creation and delivery of training summaries
  9. Handle student “discharge” appointments – be onsite and available to provide paperwork and discuss with owners:
    1. Dog’s successes and challenges re: training program
    2. “Bridge exercises” to transfer Honors training program into home
    3. Discuss and provide next steps for dog through Honors Training Program
    4. Handle any final monetary transactions
  10. Provide detailed information to coworkers re: training status, customer status, potential customer discussions, etc. on an ongoing basis

Education and experience:

  1. College degree preferred. Will consider appropriate experience and/or certifications to offset this preference
  2. Minimum of 1 year experience in customer service

Additional skills and abilities:

  1. Basic knowledge of computers to include the creation and maintenance of spreadsheet logs, calendar/document sharing, basic writing programs (i.e. Word/Pages) and video/recording abilities.
  2. Proven self-starter with ability to work unsupervised
  3. Polite, professional and enthusiastic. Someone people enjoy speaking with and can trust for advice
  4. Described as customer friendly via phone, in writing and face-to-face
  5. Able to successfully diffuse disappointed customers, resolve customer service complaints
  6. Able to successfully handle stressful situations
  7. Ability to video/record/edit training sessions and post them for Honors Training Program clients
  8. Comfortable around dogs of all sizes, breeds and behavior
  9. Able to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos; write correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, organization leaders and other employees and coworkers
  10. Able to accurately accept and document payment for services; add and subtract three-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s
  11. Dependable attendance is required
  12. Social media expertise is a plus

Language skills:

  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret appropriate dog behavior and office management materials
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, or members of the community

Reasoning abilities:

Conflict Resolution ability.  Ability to make decisions independently.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Certificates, licenses, registrations:

Appropriate dog training certification a plus

Physical demands:

  1. Any allergies to animals must be controllable through medication
  2. This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand, sit and reach constantly
  3. Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognition of people and understand written directions
  4. Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing office equipment such as computers, copiers and other equipment
