Honors Training Program Assistant

Title:                         Honors Training Program Assistant

Reports to:           Honors Training Program Lead Trainer

Travel:                     Rarely required

P/F Time:               Part time – approximately 20-24hours per week/benefits not included

Schedule TBD: 3, 8-hour days or 5, 4-hour days, etc. (negotiable but must be

Consistent)

Weekends/Evenings:   Yes – scheduled in advance

Job purpose:      To provide excellent customer service to both external and internal customers of Canine College and the Honors Training Program – and to assist with the implementation of exemplary dog training processes and methods.

Excellent customer service includes:

– Communicating politely and professionally to coworkers and customers

– Creating and implementing timely communications to coworkers and customers

– Creating, implementing and maintaining organized schedules and calendars for customers

and coworkers

– Offering creative ideas to help improve all aspects of the Honors Training Program

Exemplary dog training processes and methods includes:

– Abiding by the overall dog-friendly training philosophy held by the program

– Ability to discuss/document training status, next steps, and program services/philosophies as provided by Lead Trainer/Director of Training

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  1. Always treat animals and humans with kindness and respect
  2. Answer telephone calls/pick up and return messages and emails in a timely/professional fashion – 24 hour return time is the goal
  3. Educate customers/potential customers re: Honors Training Program services including descriptions and cost
  4. Educate public and coworkers on Honors Training Program dog-friendly training philosophy
  5. Design, implement and maintain a schedule of training clients
  6. Take reservations for all Honors Training Program programs, accept payment, explain any “prework” and/or vaccines, equipment, etc. required
  7. Provide timely and appropriate feedback to Honors Training Program clients regarding the progress of their pet’s training, behavior, health, etc. at Canine College.
  8. Assist with the design, creation and delivery of training summaries
  9. Handle student “discharge” appointments – be onsite and available to provide paperwork and discuss with owners:
    1. Dog’s successes and challenges re: training program
    2. “Bridge exercises” to transfer Honors training program into home
    3. Discuss and provide next steps for dog through Honors Training Program
    4. Handle any final monetary transactions
  10. Provide detailed information to coworkers re: training status, customer status, potential customer discussions, etc. on an ongoing basis

Education and experience:

  1. College degree preferred. Will consider appropriate experience and/or certifications to offset this preference
  2. Minimum of 1 year experience in customer service

Additional skills and abilities:

  1. Basic knowledge of computers to include the creation and maintenance of spreadsheet logs, calendar/document sharing, basic writing programs (i.e. Word/Pages) and video/recording abilities.
  2. Proven self-starter with ability to work unsupervised
  3. Polite, professional and enthusiastic. Someone people enjoy speaking with and can trust for advice
  4. Described as customer friendly via phone, in writing and face-to-face
  5. Able to successfully diffuse disappointed customers, resolve customer service complaints
  6. Able to successfully handle stressful situations
  7. Ability to video/record/edit training sessions and post them for Honors Training Program clients
  8. Comfortable around dogs of all sizes, breeds and behavior
  9. Able to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos; write correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, organization leaders and other employees and coworkers
  10. Able to accurately accept and document payment for services; add and subtract three-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s
  11. Dependable attendance is required
  12. Social media expertise is a plus

Language skills:

  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret appropriate dog behavior and office management materials
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, or members of the community

Reasoning abilities:

Conflict Resolution ability.  Ability to make decisions independently.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Certificates, licenses, registrations:

Appropriate dog training certification a plus

Physical demands:

  1. Any allergies to animals must be controllable through medication
  2. This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand, sit and reach constantly
  3. Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognition of people and understand written directions
  4. Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing office equipment such as computers, copiers and other equipment

Part-Time Training Admin Person Needed

PiperDo you love dogs and have excellent administrative skills?  We have a newly developed part-time position open in our Training Department to help our Trainers with report creation, email responses and progress reporting of dogs in training.  This position is currently being developed for 24-28 hours per week and will include some occasional weekends.

There may be opportunity for apprentice Trainer training.  Our training program is rapidly growing and we will have the need to enhance our training program to include an additional Trainer.  Please complete our job inquiry form to apply for the position.

This position requires someone who has a great love of dogs, can lift 50 lbs, can stand for 5-6 hours, can work weekends and holidays. Responsibilities include manage carefully-matched groups of dogs while ensuring their safety and well-being.  This exciting position requires good customer service skills and knowledge of or ability to master canine body language and group dog dynamics. In this dog lover’s dream job, you will interact with groups of dogs, maintain the cleanliness of the playfield and learn or enhance your current knowledge of pack management. You will stay with your pack for the entire shift and assist putting them into their private dorm rooms (kennels) during breaks. You will document behaviors of individual dogs if/when incidents occur and discuss with your leadership and other pack coaches who may or may not be on the field with you or in an adjoining playfield. This position is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about dogs, interact and care with/for them.

Admissions Specialist with focus on Social Media

Extreme customer service is our motto!  Love Dogs?  Want to work with customers and dogs all day?  Canine College is a dog daycare, boarding, grooming and training facility located in Farmington Hills.  Working at Canine College in the Admissions office means you will be one of our “Directors of First Impressions” and provide extreme customer service to our four-legged and two-legged customers!

We have a full time position available in our Admissions office.  For this position, customer service experience is a plus.  Canine College is a 365 day a year operation –  all applicants MUST be available 365 days per year.

Duties Include:

  • Interface and interact with clients and dogs on a daily basis in a fast paced environment
  • Answering telephones and making appointments for various services
  • Signing up new clients using PetExec software
  • Processing payment for services and products
  • Will escort daycare and boarding dogs throughout the building (various size dogs) in an efficient manner
  • Work with team members on special projects and events
  • Check-in daycare, boarding and grooming dogs for services
  • Minimal data entry
  • Assist in maintaining retail area
  • Assist customers in a prompt, friendly and calming manner

Requirements:

  • Computer literate and proficient
  • Must be able to work weekend shifts (will be rotation)
  • Must be able to work all major holidays (Ex:  4th of July, Thanksgiving, December 25th)
  • Friendly, enthusiastic and helpful customer and team attitude
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and multi-task with ease
  • Excellent verbal skills
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule (our hours are 6:30am – 6:30pm Mon-Sat & Sunday 7-10a & 3-6p)

Retrieving the dog safely from the playfield or dorm room in an efficient and prompt manner will be the goal of this position.  This position may assist our Student Care Specialist with some additional responsibilities including cleaning dorm rooms, maintaining student laundry and bedding, washing dishes, setting up a new student for boarding, maintenance of the halls, Campus and dorm rooms.    Following are some of our requirements and partial job duties and benefits:

Part Time Groomer

Like hair? Dirty Hounds grooming salon located in the lobby of Canine College is looking for an experienced groomer! Canine College, one of Michigan’s premier and largest dog daycare, boarding, grooming and training facility needs a groomer who would be available Mon, Tues, Thurs, Friday, Saturday.  During the upcoming holiday season, this position has little flexibility and will be a full time position.  If you are a groomer who is only interested in a part-time position, we would love to discuss with you as well.  Our grooming salon is a comfortable and clean environment utilizing hydrosurge bathing system, high velocity blow dryers and spacious and comfortable bathing and grooming stations.  We do have entry level positions available for grooming school graduates.
